A group of high school students in the UK have created smart condoms which will change color if they come into contact with pathogens which are responsible for causing Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) such as herpes or chlamdyida. ‘S.T.EYE’, as the condom will be called, will have certain molecules attached to the silicone rubber, which will respond when it comes into contact with the specific virus and bacterium. These molecules will cause the condom to become fluorescent colored depending on the presence of the pathogens. This will happen in low light conditions and would be an indicator for the presence of an infection.
