Ford Mustang: Iconic muscle car unveiled in India, to be launched in 2nd quarter of 2016

NEW DELHI: Anyone who thinks only lions can roar has never heard a Mustang. This four-wheeled beast has thundered its way on roads the world over and Ford has now unleashed it on Indian shores. Launching the car in Delhi on Thursday, Ford officials were tight-lipped about pricing. They did promise though that the Mustang would be available to Indians from the second quarter of 2016. Equipped with SYNC connectivity which allows drivers to control their in-car entertainment using voice commands, the Mustang brings with it a plethora of features like climate-control seats, eight-inch screen, power folding mirrors, navigation, et al.

"We are not really targeting any age group particularly with the Mustang. Traditional definitions of customer segments are blurring," Anurag Mehrotra, Ford's executive director of marketing and sales, told timesofindia.com. "It is not about age but about passion. And the Mustang will bring that passion out as much in a 25-year-old as a 55-year-old."
While the long list of gadgetry does promise to bring out some passion, the real enthusiasts will know that it is the that will truly define a car.

Ford engineers have equipped the latest Mustang with a 5-liter V8 engine that promises to put out 420 horsepower and 529Nm of torque.

A new intake promises to improve low-speed breathing for better fuel efficiency, idle stability and emissions. The car, in addition, offers drivers with Selectable Drive Modes (SDM) with the option of switching between normal, snow/wet, sport and track modes. The Mustang also boasts of new front and rear suspension systems.

The Mustang was first launched in 1964 and Ford has gone on to sell over 9 million cars worldwide. The car has made appearances in film, television, music and video games for decades. And the latest edition is no different. While Ford has retained key design elements - including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck, the Mustang now has a clean-sheet design overall. A lower and wider stance with a reduced roof height, and wider rear fenders are what defines the 2016 Mustang.

Nick Eterovic, Manager of Interior Design Strategy with Ford Asia Pacific told timesofindia.com that the Mustang will always be a muscle car and its latest design cues are only inspired by it. "When mechanics begin defining a car (like in Mustang), it is about balancing it with the design. Much of that in Mustang is about making it look planted and strong."
