Retired UP Postmaster Sells Land To Build Mini Taj Mahal In Memory Of His Wife

The Taj Mahal of Agra is considered as the evergreen epitome of love all over the world. While the definition of love may have completely changed since the time Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in the memory of his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal, the monument has lived on as the ultimate expression of love.

"Initially, I sold a piece of land for Rs 6 lakhs and my wife's gold and silver jewellery for Rs 1.5 lakh and got the 'makbara' (mausoleum) constructed with the help of a local mason named Asgar. A total of Rs 11 lakh was spent, but now I have to get marble studded on the monument and also to build a lush green park around it, both of which is likely to cost me another Rs 6-7 lakh," Qadri said.

Touched by the man's love and passion for completing the structure, numerous people including the CM of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, have tried extending monetary help. But, Qadri has politely declined all help because he considers this construction as his personal endeavour and embodies his love for his wife.

However, lack of funds haven't affected the popularity of the half-finished monument as people from far off areas are flocking to catch a glimpse of 'the mini Taj' which is at par with the original one, at least in spirit!
