This Bengaluru Man Stopped Honking In Traffic He Tells Us How His Life Has Improved In One Year

You might think it's impossible - and crazy - for a car to go into the thick of Bengaluru traffic without a functional horn. But this guy will tell you it's possible - after all, he has been doing it for a year! Mansoor Ali Sharif, an engineer who is currently pursuing his PhD in environmental sciences, was about to leave for his lab when he realised that his car's horn was not working. "I called a mechanic to get the horn repaired, but he was not available and I was left with no other option but to take my car out into the traffic without an essential part. That first day was a challenge, but it eventually made me realise the futility of having it in the first place," Mansoor said. A year on now, Mansoor still drives without a horn in his car. From his experience, the researcher now finds it unnecessary to even have one anymore and believes that honking is a habit inculcated over time, and one that is annoying and harmful.

"From the day I gave up honking, I've been comfortable. Sometimes I feel even my stress has come down, and I am able to manage my anxiety better. The whole exercise of getting rid of the horn has helped me evolve into a better human being," he said.

The other important thing that a car without a horn has taught Mansoor is time management. Most people leave for work at the eleventh hour and then to make up for it, penalise everyone with their frustrated honking. It doesn't help, but when you have the horn, you will use it. It's in our nature, he said.

He believes that the government should come up with a no-horn policy and it will make the roads a better place and will also reduce a lot of road rage.
