In her latest interview with NDTV, Kangana Ranaut spoke candidly about the allegations levelled against her, and boy did she win hearts! There was no shame in her eyes - the three-time National Award winner didn't once mince her words. Not even when she said, "If a woman is sexually active, she’s called a whore and if she’s super-successful, she’s called a psychopath." However, for many frustrated souls on the internet, the interview did little to dispel their clouds of judgement that have no solid footing. They vomited the venom of their hearts on NDTV's Facebook post, and each comment was more sexist than the last. Kangana's never shied away from taking a stand on women's issues. Neither did she hide in a corner this time when things were being spoken about her. Feminism, it seems, will always be misconstrued as a 'shield' against men, when in reality, it's not. People will continue to judge women and hurl abuses at them because, in their heads, feminism is a prerogative of the super-successful, the super-rich. No matter how many Kanganas get publicly blamed, the Indian mentality will always be the first to shame. But this backlash is not the only thing the interview gave way to. It also birthed support, understanding, and embracing of a woman who was victimised by the men in her life and men, and women in general. Irrespective of her social status, they were able to see the truth in lies, and the light in darkness. And it is to them Kangana really spoke.
