Worlds Oldest Dog Maggie Passes Away Peacefully At The Age Of 30

Believed to be the world's oldest dog, Maggie the Kelpie has been laid to rest. The brown and tan dog was 30 years of age when she passed away in her sleep on Sunday night. Peacefully. 30 years translate to 210 dog years - that's how long Maggie lived. The pet of an Australian dairy farmer Brian McLaren, Maggie was fine until two days prior to her death when her health began to deteriorate. "She was still going along nicely last week. She was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing," said McLaren to a local newspaper The Weekly Times.

Thirty years ago, McLaren had adopted the dog with his then four-year-old son, when Maggie was an eight-week-old puppy. The dog gained media attention last November when McLaren said that she was the oldest dog living. However, since he had lost the ownership papers that could have proved her age, Guinness failed to prove her age and Maggie couldn't become a record holder for the Book of Records.

Currently, the Guinness Book of World Records identifies Bluey as the world's oldest dog - an Australian cattle dog that died in 1939 at the age of 29. Maggie had already lost her sense of sound and was also going blind at the time of her passing.

"I’m sad, but I’m pleased she went the way she went," said McLaren.

Maggie's been buried in a marked grave, under a pine tree.
