23 YO Spots A 2 Inch Crack In Tracks Near The Kurla Station, Saves Hundreds Of Lives

23-year-old Gururaj Sahu Sakpal was able to save lives in what could have been a major mishap at Kurla station after he spotted a crack on the railway track. Sakpal, on his way to work on Monday, was changing trains when he spotted a 2 inch crack on the platform. The Indian Railway Fan Club member knew that this spelt trouble, and he rushed to inform the train motorman. "When I got close to the track I also noticed that one bolt was missing,"

The Motorman on duty, Paramhans R Giri foun that the track's fishplate (a metal bar that is bolted to the ends of two rails to join them together in a track) was loose. "I immediately informed the control room," Giri said. The train was then allowed to go over the track at a very low speed.

"If not for this alert young man, we could have had a major accident on our hands," said Venu P Nair, General Secretary, National Railway Mazdoor Union.
