But what if someone told you that money can in fact, buy you happiness. This isn’t just your cash hungry friend, but… Researchers from the University of Cambridge in Britain found, if your purchases match your personality then that purchase can bring you happiness. Practically this means, If you’re Monica from F.R.I.E.N.D.S then, buying a Vacuum Cleaner would make you feel happier!

Buying products that fit your personality can be as important as finding the right friends, job and partner.

According to Gladstone’s interview in Psychological Science, “Our study breaks new ground by mining actual bank-transaction data and demonstrating that spending can increase our happiness when it is spent on goods and services that fit our personalities and so meet our psychological needs”.

This study conducted with 625 participants over a period of 6 months, based the spending categories on the Big 5 personality traits.

Which include openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. So closer the purchase was to their personality, higher was the life satisfaction reported.

So maybe, just maybe we need to start saving.
