Amitabh Bachchan Says He Has not Been Approached To Be Brand Ambassador Of India Tourism Campaign

After a report that he might miss out on becoming the brand ambassador of a tourism campaign, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday said that he hadn't been approached for the job so far. A report on Monday said that the actor's appointment as the brand ambassador of the national tourism campaign was on hold since his name was involved in the Panama Papers. A statement released by a legal advisor on behalf of Bachchan said: "There have been queries from the media regarding my being Brand Ambassador for 'Atulya Bharat'. I wish to state that I have not been formally approached for this position. The speculation of the media regarding its discontinuance is, therefore, not relevant as far as I am concerned." Regarding the Panama Papers investigation, the actor said: "On the Panama disclosures, I wish to state that queries continue to be sent to me by the media. I would humbly request them to kindly direct these to the GOI where I, as a law abiding citizen have already sent, and shall continue to send, my responses. I stand by my earlier statement on the ‘misuse of my name’ in the matter and in any event the press reports do not disclose any illegal act committed by me." The Indian Express revealed a list of names of famous celebrities and politicians, who had offshore bank accounts, the list included the names of Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among 500 other Indians.
