Bangladesh vs UAE, Asia Cup T20 2016, Match 3 at Dhaka: Mohammad Mithun’s 47, Mahmudullah’s 2-5, and other highlights

Although the match turned out to be a low-scoring tie, it was still a pleasure to watch the way Bangladesh were able to defend a low total. Following an embarrassing 45-run loss to India in the opening game of the Asia Cup T20 2016 on Wednesday, Bangladesh were strong enough as they displayed great sportsmanship and played some good cricket to make a thumping comeback in the tournament, as they battered minnows United Arab Emirates (UAE) by a massive 51 runs in Match 3 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Friday. Although the match turned out to be a low-scoring tie, it was still a pleasure to watch the way Bangladesh were able to successfully defend a low total of 133. Ayush Gupta takes a look at the highlights from the tie. Although Bangladesh were not impressive with the bat, it was their opener Mohammad Mithun, who seemed to be the pillar of Bangladesh’s top order and their batting line-up as well, as he played a steady knock of 47 off 41 deliveries, that allowed Bangladesh to post a defendable total. He handled the pressure good despite wickets falling at the other end. His innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, along with a strike rate of 115. Apart from Mithun, it was Bangladesh’s middle-order all-rounder Mahmudullah, who too played his part on an otherwise dull day for Bangladesh, as he played a sensible knock of 36, which too added to Bangladesh’s defendable total and allowed them to earn the win. His knock came off 27 deliveries, including a boundary and a couple of sixes, along with a strike rate of 133. UAE’s medium-pace bowler Mohammad Naveed did his part and allowed his team to restrict the hosts to a below par total, as he claimed a couple of crucial wickets in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim (4) and Mashrafe Mortaza (0) for just 12 runs, along with an economy of just 3.00, thus becoming the star of the UAE bowling in today’s game. Although, it was an even dull performance from the UAE batsmen, the lone star in the batting line-up this time turned out to be Mohammad Usman, who played a fightback knock of 30. However, he could not last long enough to see UAE home. His knock came off the same deliveries, including a couple of boundaries and sixes each, along with a strike rate of 100. In an almost superb day for Bangladesh bowling, Mahmudullah shocked the UAE batsmen, when he bowled just a couple of overs, and managed to claim a couple of crucial wickets in the form of Amjad Javed (3) and Saqlain Haider (2), as he managed to give away just five runs, along with an economy of 2.50.
