The Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 1995 is in effect within the state, almost 19 years after it was passed by the Maharashtra Assembly. The punishment for the possession or sale of beef products is a five-year-long jail term and a fine of Rs. 10,000.
