Bengalurus First Woman Cab Driver, Who Worked With Uber, Found Dead At Her Residence

In what is probably a case of suicide, Bharathi Veerath was found hanging from her apartment in Bengaluru yesterday. She was the city's first woman taxi driver and worked with Uber. 39-year-old Bharathi lived alone in a rented apartment in the Nagashetty Halli locality. The Ford Fiesta cab she used to drive was found abandoned near her residence by her landlord who couldn't find her anywhere. It was only after he rushed to her house that he found her hanging inside. "The landlord went to the third floor of his house where Bharathi was staying in the rented portion to check her whereabouts as he did not see her again since Sunday night and found her body hanging through the room's window and alerted us," police officer Prakash told IANS.

The police believe it's a case of suicide, however, no suicide letter was found on her person.

Bharathi lived alone in the city. She had moved from Andhra Pradesh ten years ago. She had worked as a tailor and with an NGO before joining Uber two years ago.

Bharathi's landlord informed the police that she was planning to return to her hometown.
