Canadian Sikh Farmer Rescues Drowning Woman Using His Turban

The timely action of a sikh farmer in Canada has saved the life of woman who was drowning. Avtar Hothi, a resident of Kamloops, British Columbia was in his farm with his son in Heffley Creek on Saturday when they heard a call for help. The duo rushed to the spot and found a woman fallen in a river struggling to stay afloat. They tried to make the woman get closer to the riverbank, which she couldn't. It is at that moment 65-year-old Avtar pulled off his turban. The woman was able to clutch one end when it was tossed to her, and she was quickly pulled from the water.

“We weren’t prepared for it or expecting anything like this and his quick thinking (helped us),” Avtar's son Paul said.

"I'm very proud of him," he added.

Sikh men consider it improper to show their hair in public, but Hothi noted those rules don’t apply if it’s a case of life and death.
