Come 2098 And Facebook Will Have More Profiles Of Dead People Than Those Living!

Facebook will officially be termed as the largest virtual graveyard there ever was. Due to its refusal to delete profiles of dead users and 'memorialize' the timelines, the social network platform will finally become home to more people who are dead. The phenomenon is expected to happen by 2098. Statistician Hachem Sadikki of the University of Massachusetts confirmed to Daily Mail that "Social media website Facebook, which currently has 1.5 billion users worldwide, will turn into the world’s biggest virtual graveyard by 2098." According to Digital Beyond, a blogging company, nearly 970,000 Facebook users will die in 2016, which is a staggering up-count compared to 385,968 in 2010 and 580,000 in 2012.

In spite of attracting a lot of flak from users, it seems unlikely that Facebook will change its existing policy concerning dead users. Users have criticised Facebook for receiving photos of their dead in their "year in review" alerts, as well as for receiving birthday notifications of those who are no more.

Facebook has tried to solve the problem through its Legacy Contact feature, as per which a user can appoint a person of contact before dying. This way, the Legacy Contact can update the profile with one last post, approve new friend requests, and even upload new profile and cover images.
