Delhi Government Is Set To Plant 10 Lakh Saplings In One Day

Delhi's tree plantation is 10 lakh saplings, and now the Capital's municipal corporations want to do that - in one day. Today will see Delhi government hold a massive tree plantation drive across the city. The plantation drive will be assisted by NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, students and the public, Vijay Prakash Pandey, Leader of the House in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, told the Hindu. The Delhi MCD's nurseries, local businesses engaged in corporate social responsibility initiatives will be used to buy plants. Some varieties will have to be bought.

Some Union Ministers have been invited to the drive, an "environment day" for the corporations

"Our government will promote effective plantation and steps will be taken to ensure that such plantations survive. Third-party audit of the plantation drive will be conducted to ensure accountability," Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal Arvind Kejriwal said in June. Kejriwal said the government would launch a campaign to urge people to plant more and more trees to make Delhi a clean and green city. Delhi has around 42 city forests. The Delhi government proposes to develop them for protecting natural flora and fauna besides providing people a place for walking/jogging.
