Delhi, Mumbai And Bengaluru Rank Among The Worst Cities In The World On The Livability Index


Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru - no one is smart enough for this global livability survey of 181 cities. Government Announces Second List Of Smart Cities - Lucknow, Faridabad, Chandigarh Make The Cut. The 2016 Cities in Motion Index (Barcelona-based University of Navarrara’s IESE Business School and the Centre for Globalisation and Strategy) ranked these cities low on most parameters for a “smart, livable city”, Hindustan Times reported. Out of 181 cities, New Delhi came in at 174, followed by Bengaluru at 176 and Kolkata at 179. Mumbai ranked better than them, while Lagos and Karachi came in at 180 and 181.



Parameters included economy, human capital, technology, environment, international outreach, governance, urban planning, public management, social cohesion, mobility and transportation. Surprisingly, the four cities were added to a list of 33 cities making their debut on the list, for their population and economic, political or cultural significance.

India did well on these - Delhi came in at 58 (mobility and transportation), and 66 (number of foreign tourists visiting). Delhi was low in economy (178), environment (180) and urban planning (179).
