Delhi Students’ Union Head Posts Pic With Rifles In Campus, Deletes After Outrage

A photograph of Delhi University Students Union president Amit Tanwar and few others, showing them posing with guns on the varsity premises, surfaced on social media today, kicking up a row. NSUI demanded a probe into the matter involving Tanwar, who represents Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) affiliated to RSS. University authorities, however, refused to comment. Here is the photograph of Tanwar which shows several guns, 4 lying on the table and one on his shoulder: The pictures were alleged to be from a memorial service for Tanwar's brother, organised in the DUSU office. Tanwar claimed the guns belonged to "security officers" of one of the guests who had come to pay homage to his "social activist" brother Pradeep.

He claimed the picture was clicked against his wishes.

"At the memorial service, few guests wanted to click a photo and they laid the guns on the table. I refused to get clicked but they went ahead and uploaded them without my knowledge," Tanwar said.

Demanding probe into the matter, NSUI accused ABVP of vitiating the atmosphere of student politics in Delhi University.

"ABVP has vitiated the atmosphere of student politics in DU. NSUI will stage a protest and we demand an inquiry against this and an FIR should be lodged by the university," Vivekananda Pathak, national secretary, NSUI said.
