Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been reportedly asked to repay donations made to a Malaysian fund that was used to sponsor his 2013 film 'The Wolf of Wall Street'. The subject is now reportedly being investigated by the US Department of Justice. The call to repay donations comes from Bruno Manser Funds, Swiss charity which works on Malaysian rainforest protection. Hollywood Reporter reported that the Leo has been accused of "double standards" for accepting donations that were made to what might be a international money laundering front. According to the charity, DiCaprio's efforts to protect Sumatra's last rainforests are controversial, as a "scandal-plagued 1MDB fund", which took part in Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation fundraising auction at Christie's is connected to deforestation 500 miles away in Malaysia. "We are deeply disturbed that Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation accepted assets that originate from the proceeds of corruption in Malaysia. This is a disgrace and in total contradiction with the declared aims of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation," said Lukas Straumann, director of the Bruno Manser Fund. "We call on DiCaprio to apologize and pay back all this dirty money to the Malaysian people." The Telegraph reported that many donations to the Caprio's environmental charity "came directly from billions of dollars siphoned from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund 1MDB." The investigation does not specifically mention him, but DiCaprio is named as "Hollywood Actor 1" in the Department of Justice complaint.
