Martial arts and coffee have finally come together to give a new spin to 'coffee with a kick.' Popular in London, the food chain Leon just sent its employees on a six-week intensive training in Wing Chun to increase their efficiency. The man with the idea was Leon's co-founder, John Vincent, who gave the trial run a thumbs-up in March this year. NextShark reports Orla Delargy of Leon as saying, “We noticed that the baristas, some of them were feeling quite stressed. It’s quite a stressful job. We tested their heart rate and their confidence levels, then we did six weeks’ intensive Wing Tsun (Chun) training."
Wing Chun is an ancient Chinese martial art that is known to enhance spatial skills. For those who don't know, this was a martial art made famous by the legendary Bruce Lee.
While the employees have reported reduced stress levels, the management is happy to see a pickup in serving time and an overall improvement in productivity. "We found the quality had gone up and heart rates had gone down," Delargy added.
