First Year Hyderabad University Student Found Hanging Inside Hostel


A first-year student of MFA course at University of Hyderabad (UoH) here allegedly committed suicide. Praveen Kumar allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room, Joint Commissioner of Police (Cyberabad West) M Stephen Ravindra said. Police said Praveen hailed from Shadnagar town of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana and his parents have been informed about the incident.



UoH Pro Vice-Chancellor Vipin Srivastava said Praveen had got admitted to Master of Fine Arts course around one and half months ago. "The police is gathering more information... body has been shifted to a hospital," he said. Further probe is on.

“Why am I unable to study well? Why am I so scared of everything? Why am I unable to mingle with anyone? When I went to the department today morning, one student came and greeted me but I could not acknowledge properly, why am I like this? I have to study well and do something otherwise there is no meaning to my life. Why am I always unhappy? Why do I have this feeling that I am a lonely person?."

The death comes months after Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula was found hanging in the hostel room of the Central university resulting in hunger strikes, demonstrations and unrest there for months together.
