For Not Saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai A Muslim Youth In Delhi Got His Arm broken

Three Muslims in Delhi - all Madrassa students - have claimed that they were beaten up by a group of men for refusing to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Jai Mata Ki'.

The incident allegedly happened in outer Delhi’s Begampur area. However, the police said there have been inconsistencies in the victims' statements who first called up the control room on March 26 to report about a fight, later said they were beaten for not saying 'Jai Mata Ki' and two days later, said they were thrashed for refusing to say 'Bharat Mata ki jai'. The three victims - Dilkash, Ajmal and Naeem - told the police that they had gone to a park during a break on Saturday evening where the five attackers had been drinking. The men hit them from behind, then asked to them chant the slogans. When the three refused, the five men allegedly beat them up sticks. Dilkash sustained a fracture in his arm. “My friends and I had gone to Bans Wala park, some 300 metres from the madrasa, when we were attacked by a group of young men. They spotted us because we were wearing caps and asked us to say Jai Mata Ki,” Dilkash told The Indian Express. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikramjit Singh told the paper, “We were waiting for the medico-legal report. The case was registered [on Tuesday night] on the basis of Dilkash’s complaint as he had suffered a fracture. In their complaint, he mentioned that he and his friends were forced to say Jai Mata Ki." Dilkash told ANI, "They said they would kill us if we don't say 'Jai Mata ki,'Jai Bharat'. But we didn't say." The students said they managed to escape and ran back to the mosque. The three hail from Bihar’s Purnia district and, since last year, have been studying at Faiz-ul-uloom Ghausia madrasa in Ramesh Enclave’s Mohammadi Masjid.
