Girl From A Delhi College Just Got A Rs 1.4 Lakh Offer For A Two Month Internship

After securing the highest job placements among Delhi University's colleges last year, Lady Shri Ram College has witnessed unprecedented internship offers this year. The highest offer of Rs 1.4 lakh was made by an American bank for a two month internship. Another student bagged a two-month internship at Ernst & Young for Rs 1 lakh. In all, 279 offers were made to the students of the college of which 97 are paid internships. Of the batch of 900 outgoing students, 300 have already completed their internship. In the 2015-16 placement season, 59 companies offered placements of which 38 visited the campus. The highest offer was of Rs 29 lakh per annum, while the average was Rs 6.4 lakh. A total of 112 students were placed. The placement cell of the college invited many reputed firms as well as start-ups to select the interns. The cell has managed to bring in a varied list of recruiters to the campus in the past.

The department also conducts skill building workshops for resumes, case studies and personal interviews to act like a complete 'Career Services' unit. These workshops are conducted for students of all years to boost their placement opportunities. This year, many of these sessions were conducted by professionals from reputed organisations like Ernst & Young, KPMG, Talerang, among others.

"We receive phone calls every day from companies offering internships to our students. Out of an outgoing batch of about 900 students, at least a third have done internships making it highly attractive to potential recruiters," said Kanika K Ahuja, convener of the placement cell.

She added that internships offer a win-win situation to both the companies and the students. "Students get a glimpse of the real world, while companies get committed, bright students at a fraction of the cost. In the past, some companies like JSW and Hannover Re extended job offers to the students who interned with them," she said.

To manage the process, the placement cell has a separate internship coordinator and class representatives from second year students of every department. "This is similar to the departmental representatives from the third year for final placements along with five placement coordinators," Ahuja said.
