While cops all over the nation have started giving due attention to Drink and Drive offenders, Hyderabad police has set an example for us all. Punishment for drunk driving isn’t a new idea. However, earlier they were asked to perform tasks that weren’t very demanding, such as holding placards or sweeping for the Swachh Bharat Initiative. On Monday, 100 Drink and Drive offenders were presented in Hyderabad court. And this time, the decision wasn’t going to be easy on any of the offenders.

The judge rolled out his decision stating that the 31 first time offenders would get a first hand experience of controlling traffic.

This was only applicable for first time offenders whose blood- alcohol content measured less than 100mg alcohol for every 100ml blood.

10 DD offenders reported to Hyderabad Traffic Control room, while the others served their punishment in Mozamjahi Market and the Koti intersection.

They reported for duty at 10 am in the scorching heat and with a little bit of whining and complaining , made it through the 5 gruesome hours.

And the Traffic Cops from Goshamahal Traffic Training Institute seem to agree with this decision.

According to Mr Srinivas, the punishment will serve a two fold purpose, “Not only these 31 people, all those motorists will get the message of what can happen if they are caught driving in a drunken condition.”

Well at least now we know that every single person will think twice before drinking and driving.

Unless they want to be standing in the unbearable heat, paying for their choices.
