Inability To Control Anger Over Power Cuts, Landed Karnataka Man In Jail

Frustrated over the frequent power cuts in his locality, a man called up the power minister to register his complaint. However, as his grievance 'redressal' he received was a police arrest. The incident happened in Sullia near Mangalore, Karnataka where Sai Giridhar Rai, a small time trader had to face police arrest for his complaint against the irregular power supply. According to a report by IBN Live, Sai called Karnataka Power Minister DK Shivakumar on several occasions. On Sunday, the minister finally answered his call. However, what followed was a verbal war between the two with both trading abuses against each other. The agitated minister ordered the local Power Department officials to lodge a criminal case against Rai. The police officials then went to Rai's house at midnight, entered through the roof and arrested him. A case of criminal intimidation, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and deterring public servants from doing their duty was thus registered against Rai. He was later released on bail on Monday after being produced before a local magistrate. Superintendent of Police S.D. Sharanappa said that Rai abused the minister as well as the officials of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company as per a report by The Hindu. However, Rai alleges that it was the minister who first started the abuses after he called him up to complain.
