IPL 2016: Kings XI Punjab team name David Miller as captain


David Miller said he is honoured to lead Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2016. David Miller, South Africa batsman, who will be playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL 2016 was named the team’s skipper on Tuesday. Miller has featured in 47 IPL matches so far scoring 1,319 runs at a smashing average of 42.55 and an incredible strike rate of 147.54. He has one century and eight fifties to his name in IPL. Miller has a good T20I record as well. With him being named as KXIP captain, it shall be interesting to see whether it will it improve the fortunes of the team which has not performed very well in the previous IPL seasons. Kings were sitting at the bottom in points table in IPL 2016 Miller was quoted by One India saying, “I am honoured to lead the Kings XI Punjab squad this year. I would like to thank the franchise: promoters, management and all the team members for the confidence they have in me. Kings XI have assembled an exciting squad with a good mixture of youth and experience and I am really looking forward to the opportunity that lies ahead.” said Miller, who was retained by the franchise before the auction. He has been with the team since season 4 (2011) Meanwhile, promoters of KXIP said said, “David Miller is one of the most talented and explosive players in contemporary cricket and we are so pleased that he has been an integral part of the team. We have complete faith in his capabilities and leadership skills and look forward to a successful season.” Franchise’s coach Sanjay Bangar added, “I have watched David grow as a player. He has displayed outstanding batting abilities and a cool temperament in many high-pressure situations. I am confident in his potential to lead the boys this season.”
