ISIS Warns Brazil Of A Terrorism Threat During The Rio Olympics

There’s only 4 months to the 2016 Olympics in Rio and Brazil Counterterrorism director Luiz Alberto Sallaberry has confirmed a “credible threat” to state security from ISIS. He’s also spoken about the increasing number of Brazilians who sympathise with Islamic State. ”Brazil, you are our next target" Along with the best athletes in the world, Brazil is expecting up to 500,000 visitors (of which 2,00,000 might be Americans) as spectators. Sallaberry said that the nation is working with international security and improving security protocol and training. The threat, surprisingly, was made on Twitter last year, by Maxime Hauchard – a French national identified as an executioner in ISIS propaganda videos – was found to be genuine.

The tweet said: ”Brazil, you are our next target.”

Al Arabiya reported that Olympic organisers will deploy around 85,000 security personnel for the games. This is double the 2012 Games security detail. This includes a substantial number of National Force for Public Security members, which includes police and other law enforcement officials.
