India has various world records in its name, some of them make us proud and some not so much. This one will not only shock you but will also make you feel proud. We thought it deserved to be written about before it goes obsolete and here it is.

It’s our Postal Department. Surprised?

In the age of Emails, Mobile Phones, Internet and other ways of communications, India still is making full use of its postal services and it’s quite an achievement. There is hardly any village, town or city that doesn’t have a functional post office in our country and it’s definitely remarkable. The most important thing is that its reach is vast and even our new age equipment and services are not able to match that reach.

Other than sending letters, Post-Cards, Registered Mail, and Speed post they offer some services which many Indians use for mostly saving their taxes and thanks to those services the 566000 are still getting their salaries.

Here are some more facts that will surprise you.

In 1854, the post office in the province of Sindh (then in British India) made postal history when India became the first country to issue postage stamps after The Great Britain.

In 1911, India achieved another ‘first’ when a biplane from Allahabad to Naini flew with 6500 pieces of mail. The world’s first official airmail flight took place in India, on February 18th of mentioned year. It was a journey that spanned 18 kilometres and lasted 27 minutes. Henri Pequet, a French pilot, ferried around 15 kilos of mail. A special postmark, First Aerial Post, was created for the event.
