Jamaica Just Came Up With The Idea Of Ganja ATMs For Tourists - All You will Need Is A Marijuana Card

Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) in Jamaica is exploring options for providing tourists legal methods to purchase marijuana. The CLA has proposed to have kiosks or dedicated desks in Jamaica's air and seaports, where visitors can pick up a licence to sample weed. The reason - to enhance the island experience of the tourist.

“We've had our first meeting, and my thinking is that we'd need a few weeks to turn out an appropriate policy document,” said Winston De La Haye, chairman of the medical committee of the CLA, as reported by the Jamaica Gleaner.

The kiosks are expected to help regulate the growing drug market and boost tax revenues too.

Tourists can buy up to two ounces of cannabis while in the country as long as they have a prescription for medical marijuana.

“It would primarily be for people who have a prescription and, in effect, you're doing it for medicinal purposes with a permit from the Ministry of Health. If they don't have a prescription, then they can do what we call 'self-declare', and this will allow them to have the two ounces while they are here,” Lightbourne said.

Jamaican households are already allowed up to five cannabis plants under the new law.
