Judicial Custody Of Umar Khalid And Anirban Bhattacharya Extended By 14 Days


Weeks after JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya surrendered in connection with the Afzal Guru event at the university, a Delhi court has extended their judicial custody by 14 days. The hearing was held via video conferencing. The duo surrendered on February 24 under directions of the Delhi High Court. Meanwhile, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar is expected to be present at a march in Delhi's Mandi House, demanding release of Umar, Anirban and DU Professor SAR Geelani, who have been in jail over sedition charges, DNA reported.

JNUSU Vice President Shehla Rashid told DNA, "Similar protests will be in held in Bangalore and Hyderabad where universities have come out in our support condemning the witch-hunt of students."
