Manipuri Woman Arrested In Mumbai For Fighting Off Her Molesters

A 25-year-old woman from Manipur has been arrested by police in Mumbai for a 'crime' something that would have been otherwise lauded as an act of bravery. Her crime? She fought-off her molesters! The incident happened on Sunday in Kalina when the woman along with three of her friends were returning from a birthday party. While they were waiting for an auto, a group of men approached them and began making comments at them, following which a scuffle broke out. Police said she was arrested as she threw a stone at one of her attackers. “The woman was arrested as she threw a stone at one of her attackers as a result of which he started bleeding from a wound to his head,” a police official said.

The girl complained that the group made derogatory remarks on them including calling the victim 'Nepali'.

Police have arrested two men over molestation charges, following the complaint by the girl.

“I will have to check if the accused used words like 'Nepali'. It is possible the accused are uneducated and do not know it is an offence,” Mahadev Wavale, senior police inspector, Vakola police station told Hindustan Times.

The accused have been remanded in police custody for two days. The Manipuri woman and her friends were denied bail as they do not have a permanent address.
