In Japan for 3 days of the annual Indo-Japan Summit, PM Narendra Modi has signed a landmark nuclear agreement with the nation. Modi told media in Tokyo that he aims to make India the most open economy in the world. ''My resolve is to make India is the most open economy in the world. The impact of our efforts is being felt and recognised globally'', he said as he addressed CEOs and investors in Japan.

The PM's second trip to Japan in two years comes amid growing Chinese influence in the region. Encouraging travelers and businesspersons to avail the visa services India extends to Japanese citizens. the PM said: "Asia has emerged as the new centre of global growth. India and Japan will have to continue to play a major role in Asia's emergence. " The PM also said a combination of Japan's hardware and India's software makes for a great combination. Here are 12 key highlights from his trip so far: 1. India and Japan finalised the landmark civilian nuclear energy agreement. India has been negotiating the deal for 6 years now. 2. Once signed and ratified (by the Japanese Parliament) the deal will allow Japan to supply India with fuel, nuclear reactors and technology. 3. According to NDTV, an accompanying document allowing Japan to exit the agreement in case India conducts its own nuclear test, will also be signed. 4. India and Japan are set to sign 12 new agreements on issues ranging from several areas of bilateral cooperation. 5. India is also in talks with a US subsidiary of Toshiba for building 12 nuclear reactors as part of the government's plan to increase India's nuclear power capacity. 6. The PM also met the Japanese Emperor to discuss Indo-Japanese co-operation: 7. During his address at the summit, the PM also spoke of assisting in development projects in Japan, including Japanese industrial townships. 8. PM Modi will meet Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe again on Saturday, and the two heads of states will take the Shinkansen bullet train, to discuss bilateral ties. 9. Modi will visit the Kawasaki Heavy Industries facility in Kobe (site for manufacture of high speed bullet trains), Times of India reported. 10. Japan is expected to woo India for high-speed rail contracts against rival China, in what is coming to be known as the 'Rail Wars', after India signed Japan for the high-speed rail line project (between Ahmedabad and Mumbai). for $15 earlier, Economic Times reported. 11. The two countries will also be finalizing deals pertaining to sale of Japanese military equipment to India. If cleared, Japan will supply amphibious rescue aircraft US-2 to the Indian navy. 12. PM Modi also stressed on the need for solidarity between Japan and India to maintain peace and stability in the region, and counter terrorism.
