On Her 100th Birthday This Kerala Woman Gets A Special Gift A Voter ID Card

On Thursday, Thressimma Chacko, a resident of Kolakkad village in Kerala celebrated her 100th birthday. And she had a special gift, her first voter ID card. That too, right from the District Collector. He also taught Thressimma how to cast her vote using the electronic voting machine so she can cast her vote in the upcoming election in the state. Though a resident of the Kolakkad village since 1969, she had never enrolled her name in for election. It was only recently that she felt she should also vote.

"It is a great thing that a 100-year-old woman has evinced interest in voting, that too for the first time, and hence we decided to honour her," said Kannur District Collector P Balakiran.

Thressimma is not the only centenarian voter in the district, in fact there are 163 voters who are above the age of 100, but she is the only centurion first time voter.

She will get her first chance to vote on May 16, when the state goes to polls.
