On Way Home After Movie 23-Yr-Old Kidnapped, Gang-Raped In South Delhi

In yet another case of rape in the national capital, a 23-year-old woman was abducted by three car-borne men and gang-raped in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar area during the early hours of Thursday. All the three accused have been arrested. According to a Hindustan Times report, the woman was abducted around 3:15 am on Thursday when she was walking towards her home along with her friend after watching a movie. "In her statement to the police, her friend said they were walking towards Munirka when three men pulled her friend inside their car and drove off," the report said while quoting a senior police officer. The woman's friend noted down the number of the car, called up the police immediately and shared the registration number with them. The owner of the car was then immediately traced to Geeta Colony, where the owner and his friends were arrested by the police, a Deccan Chronicle report said. The police officer said that when a team of police reached Poorvi Marg, they found the girl standing there. She informed the police that the three men took turns to rape her inside the car and then dumped her. A medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape. However, the HT report added that the woman is not able to provide the exact sequence of events that took place on Thursday and is also changing her version. The three arrested men have been sent to judicial custody by a local court. In 2012, a brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus had sent shock waves across the country resulting in protests for better women safety measures and stringent laws to punish the rapists.
