An autorickshaw driver was killed and 11 people injured when a Porsche rammed into a dozen parked autos on Monday morning in Chennai. The car was being driven by V Vikas, the 22-year-old son of Vijay Anand, a Supreme Court lawyer. He was allegedly drunk at the time of the incident.
Vikas and a friend, who is said to be a former Indian cricketer's brother, were returning home after attending a party thrown by team Tuti Patriot. The team had won the Tamil Nadu Premier League final on Sunday night, reports the Deccan Chronicle. Their car hit a median on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai road and ploughed through the dozen autorickshaws parked on the roadside, injuring people who were sleeping inside the autos. Two of the injured are critical, reports The Times of India. Vikas and his friend escaped unhurt because the airbags in the car deployed when the Porsche hit the median at a high speed. Sundar, one of the injured drivers told NDTV, "I heard a screeching noise of brakes...that's all. My chest was hurting and I went blank. I realised what had happened only when the police came." The Adyar traffic investigation wing has registered a case while Vikas has been arrested by the police.Auto driver dies as drunk law student rams luxury car into 12 autos on Chennai's Cathedral Rd.
