Over 100 Die Across India In Just 3 Days Due To Lightning Striking Them


The monsoon has arrived in Northern and Central India. But sadly, it has claimed many lives within the first few days. Over a hundred people have died in the last three days after being struck by lightning. The worst-hit is Bihar, where at least 57 people have lost their lives to lightning. The toll in Jharkhand stands at 10, while at least 16 people have been killed in Madhya Pradesh and 12 people in Uttar Pradesh, all due to lightning, says a PTI report. The total number is even more if other storm-related deaths are to be counted. In Bihar, even 13 animals died after being struck. Lightning strikes are a common occurrence in Bihar in the month of June, with the coming of the rains. The state government has set up a compensation of Rs 4 lakh per family in case of death of a family member due to natural calamities. The number is likely to rise as more and more reports of causalities come in. According to forecasts, the heavy rains are going to continue for at least 3 more days.
