Patient Dies After Doctor Has A Panic Attack And Runs Out Of Ward

In a strange turn of events, a first-year resident doctor at Sion Hospital in Mumbai who was suffering from a panic attack ran away from a busy ward.

The patient, Waman Zare, 65, was undergoing a minor lung surgery required to drain fluids from the lungs. Zare passed away 15 minutes after the doctor who replaced the fleeing resident doctor performed an incorrect surgery.

As reported by The Times Of India, an informal investigation revealed that instead of the affected right lung, the replacement doctor had punctured the left lung. It sent the patient into cardiac arrest, which resulted in his death. The family claims that she did not read the patient file properly.

The acting dean, N.D. Moulick attributed the death to human error. As reported by The Times Of India, the ward with 84 patients was manned only by two resident doctors. It has been reported that the resident doctor had been suffering anxiety attacks but had not informed the department about his mental health.
