Being a parent doesn't just apply to kids, but also to pets who need equal care and attention to lead healthy and happy lives in a domestic setting. While many companies have passed 'Paw-ternity leave' off as complete bogus, there are some that feel it's about time pet parents don't have to feel silly about missing work to take their dog or cat to the vet.
Greg Buchanan has introduced this measure in his tech support company after he took time off to look after his puppy, claiming that it really benefited both of them. His employees get about a week of paid leave.
However it does not apply to every pet owner as individual cases are reviewed. People who own pets that don't need much attention, like fish, are exempt from enjoying this parental privilege.
As the pet care industry in India sees an increase in demand, paw-ternity leave might just become a reality here too.
