Two student groups fought over a changed WhatsApp group subject line in Pune over the weekend, and Akshay Dinkar, a student was injured. The fight took place in Garware College, Four others sustained minor injuries in the incident. A complaint in this regard was registered by a BBA student Sanket Salunke (22) on Sunday. WhatsApp group members changed the group subject line to someone who they were greeting on his birthday.

This reportedly irked the complainant’s friend Dinkar and he objected to it that led to a dispute between them,” a police inspector attached to Deccan Gymkhana police station said.

“When they confronted each other the next day in college, the accused student along with his other friends attacked the complainant and his other four friends in which Dinkar sustained grave injuries as he was attacked with a wooden object and weapons,” he said.

He added that Dinkar is recuperating at a private hospital. “We have registered a case against 22 youths and arrested five under relevant sections of IPC,” the inspector said
