Reduced Excess Baggage Charges Awesome Refund Policies – Air Travel To Be Better Than Ever

Buying air tickets will no longer dig a hole in your pocket if the proposition by the government to not charge extra on baggage is implemented. The entire announcement is expected to be made on Saturday by the Modi Government. According to reports, the excess baggage charge on airlines would be reduced from Rs 300/kg to Rs 100/kg till the first 5 kg. For example, earlier you paid Rs. 1500, now you pay Rs. 500 for the same. A senior official of the aviation ministry, who didn’t wish to be identified said, “We have had discussions with the airlines on the same and they have agreed to such an arrangement.” However, this is not the only good news for the air travelers.

In case, flight is cancelled, the airlines would have to pay a penalty to the passengers which would be the thrice the amount of the original ticket price.

With the particular rule applied, it’s expected that airlines would not deny passengers of alternative flights if flights are cancelled. If the airlines fail to arrange for alternative flights, they would have to pay the penalty, which is thrice the base price of the ticket. Even if passengers have booked flight tickets from online portals or travel agents, the airlines would have to compensate domestic passengers within 15 days and international passengers within 30 days, in case flight is cancelled.

If the passenger is provided with a replacement flight within 24 hours, the airline would still have to compensate with 200 per cent of the base of Rs. 10,000, whichever is less. In case, the replacement flight is provided beyond 24 hours, the compensation would be 400 percent of the base of Rs. 20,000, whichever is less.

Also, it’d be the prerogative of the passenger to decide to receive the compensation in case or have the amount held in credit.

Well, that’s got to make the air travelers a little happier.
