Russian Billionaire Seeks Immortality, Wishes To Upload His Brain Into A Computer To Live Forever

Russian billionaire Dmitry Itskov has ambitious plans that involve the blending of human consciousness into a computer. Concerned that he will be dead by the 2050s, Dmitry wishes to live on forever by uploading his brain into a computer and achieving the state of 'cybernetic immortality'. After achieving fame in the field of internet media, Dmitri founded the 2045 initiative where he has a team of scientists working relentlessly to develop cybernetic immortality over the next few decades. The 35-year-old doesn't wish to stop 'living' after he dies. Instead, he wants to have his consciousness uploaded into a computer, in the form of a hologram or a humanoid robot, in a bid to become immortal.

Gaining traction, Dmitri's plan has been inspired into The Immortalist, an upcoming BBC Horizon documentary that will go on air soon. Speaking to the BBC, Dmitri said, "Within the next 30 years, I am going to make sure that we can all live forever. I'm 100% confident it will happen."

Dmitry has his timeline all figured out. According to his 2045 website, 'avatars' can soon become a reality by 2020. Robots will be controlled by the mind and relay feedback to the user's brain through a brain-computer interface. Approximately five years after that, a robot with a transplanted human brain will be formed into creation. By the year 2035, a robot with an artificial brain, hosting a human personality will come into being, soon followed by a hologram by 2045.

Since the initiative depends on discoveries not yet made, the scientific community is at loggerheads with respect to its success. However, there's no deterring Dmitry from his single-minded goal of achieving immortality, where he envisions living in different bodies - both on the Earth and in space - and transferring consciousness between them.

Well, here's wishing him all the luck in the world because who wouldn't want to live forever?
