Say Hello To The Fastest Electric Car In The World That Zips At A Whopping 576 Kmph

Electric vehicles get a lot of bad press. Poor range and the hours it takes to charge the batteries are among the biggest complaints. For enthusiasts though, their limited top speed is a downer. Not any more. Now, Monaco-based Venturi in collaboration with the Ohio State University has proved that battery-powered vehicles can go fast. Really fast. Their VBB-3 (Venturi Buckeye Bullet – 3) has just broken the FIA land speed record for electric vehicles and in the process it averaged 548 km/h in two runs conducted in opposite directions. The maximum speed it achieved was 576 km/h! The record run was conducted at the salt flats in Utah, the ‘mecca’ for those addicted to speed.

Powering the ‘car’ are two custom electric motors made by Venturi Automobiles and batteries of 2 Megawatt capacity! But Venturi and OSU aren’t stopping here. Their ultimate aim is to hit 643 km/h (400 mph).
