Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali to Release Only After TN Elections

The final leg of shooting for superstar Rajinikanth’s gangster flick Kabali is currently progressing on Carey Island in Malaysia. The latest update from the team is that the film will release only after the legislative assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. “Superstar Rajinikanth has asked Kabali producer Thanu to release the film only after the elections”, reveals a source close to the unit. Apparently Rajinikanth believes that releasing his film during elections is pointless, as many of his die-hard fans are associated with one political party or the other, in the state. As per reports, elections for Tamil Nadu’s legislative assembly will take place by the end of April or early May 2016. But an official announcement is yet to be made. On the condition of anonymity, a popular film distributor revealed that this is a good move by the film’s team. He also said that as Rajini fans will be involved in election work, the usual celebrations like placing giant cutouts across the city and building up the ambience of a festival, will be missing in a pre election release. Industry sources have shared that Kabali director Ranjith will be wrapping up the film by the end of this month, and the first cut will be ready before April. But the superstar has asked his producers to wait for one more month. Thanu is currently producing both Vijay’s Theri and Rajini’s Kabali. Initially, he was planning to release Kabali first, but as Rajinikanth firmly insisted to shifting the release of the film after the state elections are done with. Theri however, will hit the screens on Tamil New Year day, April 14th. Rajinikanth has a knack for playing hide and seek using his political strategies. During the 1996 elections, the actor had openly declared that ‘if Jayalalithaa comes back to power, even god cannot save Tamil Nadu’. But now, the actor shares a good rapport with the ADMK government. In 2002, Rajinikanth also was at a cold war with PMK leader Ramadoss, as the latter had openly criticised the actor for corrupting youngsters with his trademark cigarette mannerisms. Not just that! During his recent Lok Sabha campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally visited Rajinikanth at his residence, and his party members are trying hard to convince the superstar to join the BJP. A source close to the actor hinted that Rajinikanth is currently not in the mood to join politics and wants to give Kabali and Shankar’s 350 Crore project, 2.o, his full attention.
