The Touching Story Of Ibrahim Al Hussein A Syrian Refugee Who Will Carry The Olympic Torch

There are some stories which invoke emotion simply due to their simplicity. The one of 27-year-old Ibrahim Al Hussein is one that touches the heart. Ibrahim will be one of the bearers of the Olympic torch as the Games draw nearer. He fled Syria after losing part of his right leg in the war. He was given asylum in Greece.

On April 26, he will run with the Olympic flame through a refugee camp in Athens. It will be a symbolic gesture to show solidarity with the refugees.

For Ibrahim, a 20-year-old dream has been realised. He always wanted to take part in the Olympics and now will get to carry the torch. He trains in a former Olympic training complex and also plays for a wheelchair basketball team.

He admits that it has been a rough journey, but he is moving on. Ibrahim's example is one of how a person can overcome unfavourable circumstances to do what he or she loves. Here's wishing him all the best in his journey forward as an athlete and as a person.
