Words like 'honey' and 'baby' are normally usually used to show affection and love, but soon, using these words could put you behind bars, at least in Uttarakhand. This is after the state Women's Commission received 1,118 complaints from women, a majority of them being harassment cases. Officials pointed out that, acts like calling a woman names, making repeated offensive remarks, comments or jokes, displaying sexist or other offensive pictures or messages, and rumour-mongering about a woman’s private life, all fell under harassment.

Making such comments and displaying indecent body language can be subjected to a one-year jail term under Section 509 of the IPC.

“We want the boys to know how (and how not) to behave with girls and the girls to realise when they (boys) are crossing the line,” Hindustan Times quoting Sarojini Kaintura, Chairperson of Uttarakhand Women's Commission reported.

The commission is also planning to hold special sensitisation camps in schools and colleges to raise awareness on the issue.
