As we celebrate Teachers' Day today, here's a story of an exceptional teacher from West Bengal, who has been teaching at a school since 18 years without taking salary for his services. Meet Prabir Pal, a resident of Goghat's Mirga village. Pal, due to a congenital disorder, cannot stand upright and has to crawl to move from one place to another. Yet, he covers a distance a 2 kms everyday to reach Chatra Primary School, where he teaches his students though he has not been officially assigned the role of a teacher.

Pal, apart from teaching his students, also takes care of the school's kitchen, grows organic vegetables in a garden adjacent to the school premises and even cleans the toilets to maintain hygiene and cleanliness for all his students.

He earns his livelihood by taking private tuition classes after school hours. The other teachers in the school say that Pal is an inspiration for all of them and that he is a teacher for the teachers as well.

When asked why does he undertake such hardships to teach without any payment whatsoever, Pal said that he loves the children at the school like his own and has vowed to make a difference to their lives.
