Sushma Swaraj has shown that even amid growing hostilities, one should never shy away from extending a warm gesture of friendship. A team of 19 Pakistani girls arrived in India on September 27 to participate in the Global Youth Peace festival in Chandigarh. Their arrival, however, came two days before India carried out its surgical strikes across the LoC. They were scheduled to return to Pakistan on October 4, but following the strikes, that looked uncertain. While extra security was ensured for the 'Girls for Peace Group', they were asked by their home nation to return immediately, reports NDTV. Aliya Harir, the convener of Aghaze Dosti (a peace forum) spoke to Swaraj on October 1 and tweeted her gratitude.
She also expressed her thanks for their Indian hosts who treated the girls like gods. Sushma reciprocated with a beautiful saying about daughters.Extremely overwhelmed. Spoke to @SushmaSwaraj ji who assured that Pakistani delegation of #GYPF2016 will reach Pakistan back safe. 😊 🇵🇰 🇮🇳
