India has a shortage of safe and clean drinking water. We’ve all heard this. Multiple times, but do you know what it really means? More people in India have access to mobile phones than access to clean drinking water. Every day 1600 people die of diarrhea that’s equivalent to 8 planes carrying 200 people, crashing with no survivors. That’s the impact of this shortage. It’s very real and extremely concerning. One step in the right direction can make a huge difference and YES BANK has certainly taken theirs.

So when YES BANK embarked on this seemingly impossible mission with their Livelihood and Water Security Project, there was nothing but trust and hope in everyone’s eyes.

And boy, did they deliver.

In just a short span they’ve managed to establish partnerships with state level NGOs and community-based organizations with a considerable footprint, outreach, and commitment, to provide access to safe and clean drinking water in areas that are deprived of the same. Through the Livelihood and Water security program and partnerships under the program, YES BANK is aiming to touch over 100 million lives by 2020.

Their project aims at providing purified water to areas where people are forced to live in such conditions and don’t know the impact of using unsafe water.

But they didn’t just stop there, they brought this change to the Railways.

Rana Kapoor, MD and CEO of YES BANK expressed, ‘To me this is such a basic need and the kind of recycling of water that can happen, harvesting of water, economizing water, purification systems and some very very frugal technologies are available for purification today’.

YES BANK aims to provide safe drinking water to 1000 railway stations by 2019 and they’ve already installed 100 water purification systems in this financial year.

They’ve been extremely practical and precise in their efforts to distribute safe water through their need assessment study.
