Your Next iPhone May Get Made In Maharashtra How Cool Is That

Even though Apple is based in the United States of America, it is rather a global product. If you look at the rear side of any iPhone, iPod, or iPad, it says that it is designed in California and assembled in China. But the iPhone’s largest assembler is in Taiwan, a company by the name of Foxconn. And it is coming to India! Maharashtra, to be precise. Yes, you read that right. Taiwanese company Foxconn is in talks with the Indian Government to set up a facility to make (build/assemble) Apple’s line of smartphones.

In 2015, Foxconn had met with Maharashtra state’s Minister of Industries Subhash Desai and other Government officials to sign a memorandum of understanding to set up a plant amounting to an approximate $ 10 billion in the state.

The Talegaon-Chakan and Khalapur regions, both within driving distance from Pune and Mumbai, have been shortlisted by them.

This will be the first ever assembly facility for Apple smartphones in the country, and Maharashtra was chosen by Foxconn for the requirement of 1,200 acres of land. So in the near future, when you purchase a brand new iPhone, it might just have a tag on its rear saying,

“Designed in California.
Assembled in India.”
