Indias Rohit Sharma crushes 264 to end up first player to hit ODI 250: World News


INDIAN batsman Rohit Sharma has become the first man in one-day international history to surpass 250 runs in an innings. Sharma’s stunning world record knock of 264 from 172 propelled India to 5-404 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI at Eden Gardens. He clubbed 33 boundaries and nine sixes during his explosive stay at the crease.

Sharma became the first batsman in ODI history to score two double centuries. Only Sharma (264 and 209), Virender Sehwag (219) and Sachin Tendulkar (200*) have broken the 200-run barrier in 50-over cricket.

Fittingly, Sharma broke the record previously held by Sehwag with an almighty six over long off in the 47th over from the bowling of Shaminda Eranga.

India’s total of was the ninth highest ODI score in history. Only 11 teams have surpassed 400 runs in an innings. India have managed the feat on five occasions.
