This Man Provides Water To Over 200 Households In Drought-Hit Latur Everyday

While the ministers and leaders of Maharashtra’s BJP government are busy clicking selfies and wasting hundreds of litres of water in the construction of a helipad in drought-hit Latur, a Muslim man Sheikh Abdul Mateen is providing 8000-10000 litres of water to 150-200 households daily, from his borewell in the same region.

The Marathwada region of the state is worst hit and thousands of farmers have committed suicide in the last one year. According to government records, out of 75 medium dams in Marathwada, 54 have dried up and the region is left with a paltry 380 million cubic metres of usable water.

Recently, Pankaja Munde, the Rural Development Minister in the Maharashtra government, had received a lot of flak for posting her selfies on social media while travelling to Latur.

More recently, BJP leader of Maharashtra, Eknath Khadse came under severe criticism for using a helicopter to reach Belkund, which is a 40-minute drive from Latur City. The administration wasted hundreds of litres of water to construct a temporary helipad for the leader’s helicopter. Ironically, the leader had gone to Belkhund to inaugurate a newly built water supply system.
